Will given F1 insight in Hungary by Renault Sport

Will Palmer was afforded the opportunity to meet with key personnel and see the inner workings of the Renault Sport Formula One Team at the recent Hungarian Grand Prix, held at the Hungaroring last weekend (22-24 July). Will, along with four other Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 frontrunners, spent two days in the F1 paddock as part of Renault Sport Racing's programme of helping to develop the most promising young racing drivers in motorsport.

The 2015 McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner was joined by Harrison Scott, Dorian Boccolacci, Sacha Fenestraz and his fellow R-ace GP driver Max Defourny in Hungary. Over two days, the quintet were given access to the Renault Sport Formula One Team motorhome, where they were able to talk to the team's drivers Kevin Magnussen and Will's elder brother Jolyon, as well as Third Driver Esteban Ocon.

They also met Ricard Panteado, Head of Trackside Operations at Viry, Paul Seaby, Race Team Manager and Kevin Magnussen's physiotherapist Thomas Jorgenssen. A complete in-depth tour of the garage, along with different strategic points of the team, followed the first free practice session in Hungary. Led by Mia Sharizman, the Renault Sport Academy Manager, the drivers also visited the GP2 and GP3 paddocks where they were able to meet with and speak to drivers competing in each category.

Further advice was imparted to the drivers by Fred Vasseur, Team Principal of the Renault Sport Formula One Team, who offered plenty of information garnered throughout his time working in motorsport, especially the junior single-seater formulae.

Will said: "I really appreciated these two days in Hungary. Even if it wasn't my first time in the F1 paddock, I was able to meet engineers who are usually tied up with their jobs and the races. I am very grateful to Renault Sport for giving me the opportunity to get to know the people in the team, to listen to their advice and to talk to them."
