Qualifying improvements for Palmer ahead of GP3 race debut

Will Palmer qualified in 20th position for his GP3 Series debut this afternoon (Friday), improving his best lap time of the weekend by more than half a second.

The BRDC Superstar took to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on a clear evening for his first ever GP3 qualifying session, after joining the MP Motorsport team at short notice. 

As a late addition to the grid, Will missed much of the pre-season build-up enjoyed by the other runners, but he acquitted himself well to move into the top-ten with his first representative lap-time. Will slipped to 13th briefly before moving himself back into the top-ten with his next hot lap.

The Sussex driver was positioned 18th on the time sheets at the mid-point of the session as he returned to the pits.

He eventually finished 20th in the session, but not after improving upon his pace from earlier in the day with a last gasp push to trim a few extra valuable tenths off his time. His final lap-time of 1m33.710s marked a sizeable improvement throughout the day as he continues to adapt to GP3 machinery.

Will's GP3 race debut will take place tomorrow (Saturday at 9:15 GMT+1) ahead of a second race on Sunday (9:25).
