Top 10 on Renault 2.0 Eurocup debut for Will

Will Palmer claimed an impressive top-ten finish on his Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup debut on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit today (Saturday), driving for the French ART Junior team.

Will did a good job to guarantee himself a starting position of 11th in qualifying, despite not having driven the car before this week. He made impressive progress from there at the start, avoiding any trouble to run as high as sixth on the opening lap, before settling into a good rhythm in ninth position.

From there, Will found himself resisting pressure from championship leader Louis Delétraz, and despite the Swiss driver's greater experience in the car, he managed to hold him behind until the sixth lap.

Will then had to defend against Brazilian Thiago Vivacqua, but kept cool under pressure to set a personal best lap time on the ninth tour to control the gap.

He held onto the position until the end of the race, and demonstrated that he'd managed to preserve the tyres by setting a personal best first sector on the last lap.

Will started the second race from 13th position, and had to fight hard just to maintain his position, dropping down to 16th by the end of the first lap. Despite this early setback, Will calmly set about climbing back up the order, to regain his starting position by the end of the race.
