Positive performance from Will on opening day of final test

Will Palmer enjoyed a strong first day at the final Formula Renault 2.0 pre-season test as he finished Thursday's (7 April) running eighth fastest overall. The 19-year-old completed 109 laps of the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain as the field builds up to the opening Eurocup round of 2016, which takes place at the same venue next weekend (16/17 April).

After positive outings in the first three pre-season Formula Renault tests, Will was aiming to continue that form into the two days of running in Northern Spain. In his R-ACE GP machine, in which he will contest both the Eurocup and Northern European Cup categories this year, Will set the fifth fastest time of the morning session. Lapping the 3.3-mile circuit in 1m57.146s, he was just 0.442s slower than pace-setter Harrison Scott, and the third fastest rookie overall behind Tech 1 Racing's Gabriel Aubry and his team-mate Julien Falchero.

The afternoon session brought a quickened pace as Will improved his personal best lap to a 1m56.577s, as Josef Kaufmann Racing's Lando Norris topped the session. The Southwater racer thus ended the day eighth quickest as last year's McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner continued his fine preparations for the upcoming season.

One more day of official pre-season testing will take place at Motorland Aragon tomorrow (8 April) and you can follow all of Will's progress through live updates right here on his official website.
