Will looking to bounce back as Northern European Cup visits Assen

Will Palmer will be aiming to put a challenging weekend at Spa-Francorchamps behind him as the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup follows up the visit to Belgium by heading to the Dutch circuit of Assen this weekend (5-7 August).

The 2015 BRDC Formula 4 Champion has displayed good pace in recent Formula Renault 2.0 outings, as he combines campaigns in both the Eurocup and Northern European Cup categories. At Spa, the 19-year-old qualified fifth for both races but a cracked tub forced a change of chassis, relegating him to the back of the grid for the pair of encounters. The issue was compounded as his car was not scrutineered in time to take the start of race one, before an unfortunate opening lap crash in race two but paid to a weekend that had shown great promise.

That difficult pair of races dropped Will from fifth in the overall standings but the Southwater racer is just 10 points away from the top-six and will be looking to reclaim the lost ground in the Netherlands. The Northern European Cup season now moves into its second half and the 2015 McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner will be aiming to add to his three podium finishes from the opening part of the year.

The action on the high-speed TT Circuit of Assen begins on Friday with two qualifying sessions beginning at 16:25 (15:25 BST) following on from two earlier free practices. Race one takes place on Saturday at 11:50 (10:50 BST) before the race two action gets underway on Sunday at 10:55 (09:55 BST).
