Back to Eurocup duties for Will at Red Bull Ring this weekend

After a successful one-off appearance in the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship at Spa-Francorchamps last weekend, Will Palmer returns to Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 action at the picturesque Red Bull Ring in Austria this weekend (16/17 July).

It has been a busy first half of the 2016 season for the 19-year-old, competing in the Eurocup and Northern European Cup (NEC) Formula Renault categories, and his BRDC British F3 drive in Belgium. The BRDC Superstar has performed strongly, claiming multiple podium finishes in the NEC and jumping up to eighth in the overall Eurocup standings last time out with a double top-10 finish at Monza in Italy.

The 2015 BRDC Formula 4 Champion qualified well and turned that into finishes of seventh and sixth at the high-speed circuit, which could have been even more but for an unfortunate collision with Indian Jehan Daruvala which ended both their races. Despite that setback, it was a positive weekend for Will as he moved into the top-eight overall with 23 points.  He will now be looking to continue that form into this weekend's Eurocup action on the undulating 2.68-mile Red Bull Ring in Austria.

Ahead of the Eurocup and NEC visits to Spa-Francorchamps later in the year, Will got some experience of the legendary Belgian track in the latest round of the BRDC British Formula 3 Championship. Driving for the HHC Motorsport team with which he won the BRDC F4 title in 2015, he immediately showed strong pace to qualify third but suffered damage in race one which dropped him to the back of the field. He bounced back in race three however, starting from pole position by virtue of setting the fastest lap from the first two races, and coming home a strong third to claim a maiden BRDC British F3 podium on his debut.

Rounds eight and nine of the Eurocup season will take place in Austria, with qualifying getting underway at 10:30 (09:30 BST) on Saturday with race one following at 14:05 (13:05 BST). Sunday's action begins with the second qualifying session of the weekend at 08:35 (07:35 BST) with lights out to start race two at 11:25 (10:25 BST).
