Northern European Cup season finale for Will at Hockenheim

The curtain comes down on the 2016 Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup (NEC) this weekend (1/2 October) at the Hockenheimring, Germany, with Will Palmer aiming to finish his campaign on a high and return to the top-10 in the overall standings.

The Southwater racer has taken three podium finishes in the NEC this year and has ran consistently inside the top-10, but was forced to miss the penultimate meeting of the season at the Nurburgring due to illness, and now occupies 12th spot in the championship order. With just 11 points separating the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner from 10th position however, and a further six from the top-eight, Will can be confident of closing the gap especially with three races taking place this weekend, instead of the traditional two, and a maximum of 90 points up for grabs.

Will was most recently in racing action last weekend for the penultimate round of the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 season at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. The 2015 BRDC Formula 4 Champion had strong pace throughout the weekend but suffered an unfortunate retirement in race one due to accident damage before mounting a brilliant recovery drive in race two to take ninth after a spin.

The 2.84 mile Hockenheimring circuit will host a triple-header of NEC races this weekend with a 45-minute qualifying session taking place on Saturday morning at 10:00 (09:00 BST). Race one will follow at 17:10 (16:10 BST) before Sunday's action begins with race two at 11:20 (10:20). The final NEC race of the weekend, and season, will take place at 17:35 (16:35 BST).
