Championship leader Palmer heads to Pau this weekend

Formula Renault Eurocup championship leader Will Palmer continues his campaign in Pau this weekend (20/21 May) with a healthy 15-point lead in the standings, following an impressive start to the season, which has seen him win two of the four races so far this season.

The BRDC SuperStar heads to south-western France in fine form following a hugely impressive performance in his home round of the championship at Silvertone last weekend, with a win and a second place. Will imperiously led every lap of the opening race in Northamptonshire, undeterred by a mid-race safety car period, before ensuring a net weekend extension of his title lead with a fine second position in the second race.

20-year-old Palmer's performances so far this season are all the more impressive when you take into account the quality of opposition that the Sussex driver has faced. His current R-ACE GP team-mate Max Defourny is a returning race-winner, whilst there are a number of FIA Formula 4 Champions on the grid too including Richard Verschoor, Ye Yifei and Max Fewtrell.

This weekend marks the mid-point of a busy three-week period for Palmer with Silverstone and Pau, followed by a Grand Prix support appearance on the streets of Monaco on three successive weekends.

This weekend will mark Palmer's second appearance at a street circuit, and his first visit to the historic, 2.76km Pau Grand Prix venue, following a sole outing at Monaco in last season's Eurocup, in which he achieved a top-ten finish.

Will said: "I'm really looking forward to driving at Pau, which is a track neither I, nor the team, has raced at before. It is a unique street circuit, but hopefully the experience of racing at Monaco last year will help me. We will have to hit the ground running in Friday practice and build up quickly to make sure we qualify well, as that will be crucial!"
